Today I drove past and noticed that some low life scumbag has dumped a few bags of rubbish containing foam and cloth at the side of the canal, I will be reporting this to the council and British Waterways and hopefully the parasites that dumped it are so thick that they may have left some evidence behind so that they can be prosecuted.
It's been seven weeks since I helped out with the Towpath Tidy at Dewsbury, We got quite a lot of rubbish out of the half mile stretch we cleaned, Very pleased we all were too.
I have sent an email showing my interest in the Towpath Tidy 2010 in Dewsbury, I am just waiting for information and confirmation that I can help out, I thought it would be a good thing to go and help out because it does bug me seeing rubbish along the canal side when I walk the dog, I wonder if we will be getting rubbish out of the canal side too.
Really looking forward to it, I've never volunteered for anything like this before. When I read this article on the Dewsbury Reporter web site I thought this is just what is needed and was looking forward to seeing the pathways and waterways improved. Well on my walk with the dog today I noticed that a lot of trees had been cut down and a new ugly fence had been put up, as I was walking along the towpath I began thinking this can't be what they are spending the money on! surely they would spend it on improving the pathways, putting in some seating and cleaning the rubbish out of the canal. But this is how Kirklees works they chop as many trees down as they can and leave all the rubbish behind, Good work. On our morning walk we heard some squeaking noise, it sounded a bit like a bird, We couldn’t see anything at first then I spotted something moving, I couldn’t get the right words out and ended up say to Louise babies babies and pointing to the other side of the canal, We looked though our binoculars and where convinced that we saw 2 baby otters running around playing.
Sunday morning and it's raining, Horace still gets his walks along the canal side, We took some bread for the ducks and the swans, Been careful not to tread on the hundreds of snails on the path as we walk. On our way we go under a bridge and as we just got under a train went past and I heard a fluttering sound coming from the top of the bridge, so I looked up and saw a load of feathers floating down, It was like a scene in a cartoon when a bird gets shot or something. Poor pigeon. I didn't think of taking a photo until after but here is a picture of the bridge. On our evening walk we fed the swans and we heard a frog in the canal we also saw a heron stood in the weir. Despite the rain it has been warm and I have enjoyed our walks today. It has now started thundering, not seen any lightning yet but it does sound far away. |
