Overall a very enjoyable day out.
It's this way dad. Had a great day at the Maize Maze in Cawthorne, didn't take long to get lost, We set out with the intention not to use the map but after an hour and half we decided the map was probably a good idea. On your way round you have to collect answers to a simple quiz and fill in your sheet for the chance to win a day where you go and watch the calves been fed and the cows been milked. We forgot to hand our sheet in so no luck there. Oliver enjoyed it in the maze and helped with the map reading, It took us two hours to get out of the maze and once out there are some good ol fashioned games to play and a tractor ride to the farm and back. This farm makes it's own ice cream we bought a large tub of it to take home.
Overall a very enjoyable day out. Took Oliver for his first ride in a train today so we took him to the Kirklees Light Railway, It's a nice place with a tiny train that goes around the duck pond twice, bouncy castles and play areas for the kids, nice tea rooms too.
The main attraction is the narrow gauge steam trains that take you along a 3 3/4 mile trip from Clayton West to Shelly, It's a good Ol rickety ride through the country side, and the kids really enjoy it. You can fine the website here.. Kirkleeslightrailway.com I just wanted to post an image I took at Chester Zoo with the Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens that my brother got recently to go to Easter Island for the total eclipse.
I think this image shows how sharp it is and I am really pleased with the results. The only post production done on this image was Auto Tone in Photoshop then saved out as a jpeg at the best quality. Picture Data: Camera: Canon 450D Shutter Speed: 1/400 sec Exposure Program: Aperture priority F-Stop: f/11 ISO: 500 Focal Length: 400mm Image quality: Canon RAW Image Size: 4272 x 2840 px Went to Chester Zoo for the day last Sunday with Oliver's Granny and Granddad, It was a nice day, Oliver loved all the animals and he kept pointing at the monorail every time it went past but by the time we where ready to go on it he had fallen asleep, The Tigers where a bit lazy too one of them stayed in the same place for the whole day we where there, I did manage to get some great shots of the male Lion though. The boat bus was a nice relaxing ride down the lake and back. One of the Elephants had a baby the week before we went, It was very hard getting any photos of it as it was being guarded by the adults. We didn't get chance to see everything so when Oliver is a bit older we will go back and try and get done what we didn't se this time.
Below are some of the photos I took. Oliver took two little steps today without being held.
It's two little steps for Oliver, Two giant steps for Mum and Dad. Kirklees Council put on a free festival in our towns park, With Chart acts Eliza Doolittle, Roll Deep and Gabriella Cilmi headlining sunday nights event.
Saturday was Motown night with american Motown act The Magic Of Motown, They spent the evening entertaining the crowds, The good thing about this night was even if you weren't into Motown you knew the words to every song and could sing along, So that was a very enjoyable night. Sunday was an all day event with a kids area where they could build and launch there own rockets, Little theatre shows and a play area, then there was a Chroma Van that bathed you in pure colour that changed the colour of your clothes and skin. There was 2 stages, the 2nd stage was more of a diversity stage with different styles of music acoustic jazz, Burundi drumming, Gospel and more. The council did do a good job of setting up the festival and securing the top three main acts, The festival was a family day out for people to bring a picnic and deck chairs to sit in the sun and have a good time. But and this is were it all went wrong, Gangs of Asian youths were prowling the arena shouting racist comments to people which in the end ended in violence breaking out not far from where we where sat, The police and security came in and stopped it, The asian youths split up into smaller groups and made phone calls, I stood up from this point and watched what they did they made up smaller groups that went around and started intimidating people trying to cause fights, again the police split them up, As the night went on more fights broke out at the entrance to the park, When it was time for us to go we were told to go through the park as the lane we wanted to go down was closed because youth were fighting, So we walked through the park and as we did a gang of about 30 asian youths where walking down towards the gate we where going for we hung back to let the rest of the crowd that was leaving to catch up to us, the gang then moved to one side and starred at us as we went past, When we eventually got to the road our car was parked on there was an ambulance parked up, We saw two young girls about 15 years old one with a ripped top she was crying and looked dazed and the other was screaming at the ambulance crew, We asked a man what had happened and he told us his mate had been stabbed by some asians and was in the ambulance, I then heard the screams of the stabbed man coming from the ambulance, At this point I said to Louise lets get out of here. We also heard that after Saturday nights show a woman got raped. It's a real shame that people can't just sit down and enjoy a family show without the dregs of society spoiling it for the rest of us. There are other events going on in the park over the summer that we where going to attend but now have decided to stay away and we won't be going to next years festival in the park. This is the longest post in my blog so far....and all for the wrong reason. |
