Oliver is nine months old today and he said Daddy for the first time, Well giddy I am.
Just a quickie, Here is a photo of Oliver I manipulated in Photoshop. A larger version can be found in the photography pages here. Today we had a light covering of snow so we took Oliver out in the snow for the first time, I think we enjoyed it more than he did. We also built a tiny snowman for him. :-)
Oliver is coming on nicely, He is such a happy little chap and everyone loves him, on 21st November he will be half a year old, It doesn't seem like two minutes since he was born and weighing 5 pounds, he now weighs about 13.5 pounds, Louise is still breast feeding and doing a great job, We started weening him a few weeks back with little bits of our food, We are now giving him one or two meals a day of home cooked food like apple and banana pudding we call it "apple actually" and tomato soup again home made, We went to the farm shop the other day and bought various types of fresh veg that we will be using for his food. I'm glad he is now eating some mushed up solids because now I can feed him, The last few months he has been breast fed so I never really got chance to fed him but now I can. This is one of the latest photos of him it's taken me ages to get one of him smiling, ok it's more of a grin than a smile because he always stops smiling when the camera comes out.I love him to bits. It’s been a while since I updated things on my blog, I’ve not had much time since Oliver was born, I often wondered what people did when they said they didn’t have time to do things on there computers, Now I know.
Oliver is coming on nicely he is 8 weeks and 5 days old now and weighs 3.58 kg (7.89 lbs) he is due to be weighed again tomorrow. Here he is laying on his mummy and him laying on his play gym and below that a video of him crying. Wednesday 20th. I got up about 7am as I do most days, I did the usual thing of browsing the internet till Louise gets up a couple of hours later, Then we have a drink and take Horace out for a walk, At 1pm I set off to work, I’ve been doing the 2 - 10 shift for the last couple of weeks. I sent Louise a text and an email at some point in the shift and didn’t get a reply so I rang her to make sure everything was ok, Everything was fine she was at her friends house and had run out of credit, So that was ok. When I got home from work at about 10:40 pm I noticed the bedroom light was on, I got in the house and Horace went crazy excited as he always does and Louise called down saying “prepare yourself for a shock” I said to Horace “what’s your mum been up to now she’s not done any decorating has she?” Then Louise said “My waters have broken” I replied “You’re joking aren’t you” “No” she said. I went upstairs and sure enough she wasn’t joking! She said she had phoned the hospital and they said do not panic keep calm and get your things ready and make your way in. It took a while for it to start to sink in but as it did I started to get a bit nervous, the other day we were just talking about ringing up the to see if we could have a tour around the delivery suite and here we are now heading off to have a baby, Confused and surprised. We got to the hospital, I can’t quite remember how things went I just remember certain things. They did all the little tests that they have to do and examined Louise, At one point a nurse came in and said that a consultant would have to come and examine her but he was held up in triage I looked at Louise and said isn’t that something to do with horses you know the thing were they trot round in circles, She looked at me a bit confused knowing what I meant, also a nurse said something about AV Louise said to me that’s a button on your remote control isn’t it? as you can see we were both highly confused. Thursday 21st At about 3am we agreed that I should go home and get some rest because from what the nurses said made us think that Louise was going to be in for a couple of nights, I didn’t want to leave her but she said she would be fine, so I went home, I then got a phone call at 4:45am saying that the baby was on it’s way and could I make it back to the hospital, I jumped out of bed and drove to the hospital I got their at about 5am and went into the delivery room, There were about 3 or 4 nurses and I held Louise’s hand, The contraction were regular and she was in some pain when it was getting too much I put my arms around her to comfort her, I could see the babies head as it was coming out and it popped back in again peek a boo style, Louise was struggling with the pain and she kept saying she can’t push any more, I kept telling her she can do it I can see the babies head keep pushing, then all of a sudden the baby was on it’s way out I just saw the midwife pulling it out and as it laid on the bed at 6:11am I turned to Louise and told her it was a boy, she didn’t hear me because after a couple of minutes later she asked what we had got. I got a photo of him at about 10 seconds old. It was a very exciting day, I can’t put into words how it feels to be their at the birth of your child, It’s just wonderful. Later on that night Louise was able to come home and we sat up and talked about the day and had a good giggle about it all, especially the triage bit because we remembered what the horse trotting thing was called dressage, We were in fits of laughter then. I did about 60 miles that day driving people to and from the hospital and we didn’t get to bed till 2am Friday morning. Here are some more photos of that day. Louise and Oliver we didn’t have a name for him at this point. I’ve probably missed some bits out but my brain is still mashed, I’ve also still to ring people and tell them.
Right now I’m going to go back to the hospital, Oh yes that reminds me Oliver wasn’t due till July 2nd so he is exactly to the day 6 weeks early so he has to stay in for about 2 to 3 weeks, till he gets his strength up, he,s doing well though and the nurses are pleased with his progress, Oh and he weighed 5 pounds spot on. Ya can tell it’s a bloke writing this and not a woman can’t ya. Right must go. Bye We went for our second scan today, very excited we were too, I got to see it all again, everything was ok, at one point I thought I saw something that suggested what sex it was but I think now it could have been the umbilical cord.
We are going for a posh meal today to celebrate. Our baby to be is 19 weeks and 1 day old today and being kept nice and warm by it’s mother in this chilly weather we are having right now.
One more week to go when we will have our second scan, can’t wait and hope it is nice and clear. I printed our first scan on to canvas not a huge one but one about 300 mm square, we will have our second one printed on canvas too. We went for our first scan today, About time too it’s took us ages to get an appointment.
After racing round the car park for 15 minutes trying to find a parking space we eventually found one. When we where in there we didn’t have to wait too long before we where seen. It’s a strange feeling when you go for the first time not knowing what you will see and hoping that everything is ok, The room was a bit smaller than I imagined it to be, I had to sit at the end of the bed with the nurse sat at the side of the bed in front of the monitor, This meant that I had a clear view of the monitor and saw everything that was going on, I did duck behind the nurse when I thought it looked like the sex of the baby was going to be revealed, So I still don’t know what we are having. The scan showed us that Louise is 16 1/2 weeks gone and the baby is due on the 2nd July. Attached are 2 of the scans we got. Ooh My first post of 2009, Welcome and a Happy New Year to you all.
So excited today we took delivery of our Angel Sounds Fetal Monitor today and heard the baby’s heartbeat for the first time, Took us about 15 mins the first time we tried and we where surprised at how clear the sound was, We then tried again after tea this time it took us a bit longer to find and it was a bit more noisy, We have recorded it here for you to listen to. The loud bumps you can hear are probably the baby moving. |
