We entered into the famous Rubber Duck Race but didn't win, It was fun at least and quite funny how grown ups get excited about a rubber duck floating down a river. At lot more things did happen but I'm just too tired to go into it right now, I have a few photos to sort out too. We are back in Marsden tomorrow to see the horse drawn narrowboat on the canal. I don't think I will have time to update tomorrow either as we have to goto my parents so they can see Oliver. So thats it for now till I get time to update. Went back to Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve on Saturday, I had hoped to get some pictures of some Kingfishers but we didn't see any, There were other photographers there and they didn't get any either. We did see some Coots building a nest, that was nice to see, I took loads of pictures of other Coots and there young but they weren't that good, Got some nice photos of Louise and Oliver watching the adult Coots feeding there young. Also got a good shot of a Mallard that Louise told me to take, I wasn't going to take one because I have loads of shots of Mallards. I also got an action shot of a Mallard taking off.
After seeing this article on the Outdoor Photography website about Avian Abstracts, I went back and took another look at the picture on the left and thought "It's not a bad shot after all". What do you think? While in Knaresborough yesterday we came across this tree in Conyngham Hall grounds. It has spiky branches and trunk and did draw blood when I went to touch it. does anyone know what this tree is?
Mother Shiptons Cave Had a great day out at Knaresborough today to see Mother Shiptons Cave, We were a bit disappointed with the cave, It's more of an alcove than a cave, it cost us a total of £15 to get in and park up for the day, you can leave the half mile walk to go to the other side of the river, That's what we did and went boating had a meal and walked to the castle. I didn't get ant decent photographs today only shots that were only good enough as snaps. If you go to Knaresborough and don't go to the cave you won't be missing much. Having said that it is good for the kids, a kids imagination will fill in all the blanks that adults don't see. We went to Tropical Butterfly House in North Anston, Sheffield today, They have got some nice birds there, a lot are just walking around and are quite tame, They have some little tiny goats that we fell in love with and wanted to smuggle a couple out under our coats but thought it might look a bit sus so we changed our minds. You can see 18 of the 248 pictures that I took in the Tropical Butterfly House section in my photographs. Took Oliver to Wilton park today, We got some good natural photos of him, here is just one of them. Got some action shots of a male Mallard washing itself, these are not perfectly sharp, the sun went in just as I got ready to take the photo so they are here just for interest.
The last two images are of a female Mallard. A few weeks ago we planted some Daffodils, The cold snap has stunted there growth, Some have started to flower while others haven't even start. We moved some onto the windowsill out side to get more sunlight, After a couple of weeks they were still looking a bit wilted, We brought one Daffodil inside and put tat in the window, Within a few hours it had perked up and was stood up straight, Now a week later it has grown to a whopping 60cm (23.62") tall, Is this the tallest Daffodil in Yorkshire or even the world?
