Wednesday 20th.
I got up about 7am as I do most days, I did the usual thing of browsing the internet till Louise gets up a couple of hours later, Then we have a drink and take Horace out for a walk, At 1pm I set off to work, I’ve been doing the 2 - 10 shift for the last couple of weeks. I sent Louise a text and an email at some point in the shift and didn’t get a reply so I rang her to make sure everything was ok, Everything was fine she was at her friends house and had run out of credit, So that was ok.

When I got home from work at about 10:40 pm I noticed the bedroom light was on, I got in the house and Horace went crazy excited as he always does and Louise called down saying “prepare yourself for a shock” I said to Horace “what’s your mum been up to now she’s not done any decorating has she?” Then Louise said “My waters have broken” I replied “You’re joking aren’t you” “No” she said.
I went upstairs and sure enough she wasn’t joking! She said she had phoned the hospital and they said do not panic keep calm and get your things ready and make your way in. It took a while for it to start to sink in but as it did I started to get a bit nervous, the other day we were just talking about ringing up the to see if we could have a tour around the delivery suite and here we are now heading off to have a baby, Confused and surprised.

We got to the hospital, I can’t quite remember how things went I just remember certain things.
They did all the little tests that they have to do and examined Louise, At one point a nurse came in and said that a consultant would have to come and examine her but he was held up in triage I looked at Louise and said isn’t that something to do with horses you know the thing were they trot round in circles, She looked at me a bit confused knowing what I meant, also a nurse said something about AV Louise said to me that’s a button on your remote control isn’t it? as you can see we were both highly confused.

Thursday 21st
At about 3am we agreed that I should go home and get some rest because from what the nurses said made us think that Louise was going to be in for a couple of nights, I didn’t want to leave her but she said she would be fine, so I went home, I then got a phone call at 4:45am saying that the baby was on it’s way and could I make it back to the hospital, I jumped out of bed and drove to the hospital I got their at about 5am and went into the delivery room, There were about 3 or 4 nurses and I held Louise’s hand, The contraction were regular and she was in some pain when it was getting too much I put my arms around her to comfort her, I could see the babies head as it was coming out and it popped back in again peek a boo style, Louise was struggling with the pain and she kept saying she can’t push any more, I kept telling her she can do it I can see the babies head keep pushing, then all of a sudden the baby was on it’s way out I just saw the midwife pulling it out and as it laid on the bed at 6:11am I turned to Louise and told her it was a boy, she didn’t hear me because after a couple of minutes later she asked what we had got. I got a photo of him at about 10 seconds old.

It was a very exciting day, I can’t put into words how it feels to be their at the birth of your child, It’s just wonderful. Later on that night Louise was able to come home and we sat up and talked about the day and had a good giggle about it all, especially the triage bit because we remembered what the horse trotting thing was called dressage, We were in fits of laughter then. I did about 60 miles that day driving people to and from the hospital and we didn’t get to bed till 2am Friday morning.

Here are some more photos of that day.
Louise and Oliver we didn’t have a name for him at this point.

Great Granny.
I’ve probably missed some bits out but my brain is still mashed, I’ve also still to ring people and tell them.
Right now I’m going to go back to the hospital, Oh yes that reminds me Oliver wasn’t due till July 2nd so he is exactly to the day 6 weeks early so he has to stay in for about 2 to 3 weeks, till he gets his strength up, he,s doing well though and the nurses are pleased with his progress, Oh and he weighed 5 pounds spot on. Ya can tell it’s a bloke writing this and not a woman can’t ya.
Right must go.

Bye

New arrivals

4/5/2009

Over the last couple of months or so we have noticed that the male swan we were feeding last year was all alone and in a bit of a strop, He was chasing anything away that was on the same patch of river as him, We did wonder what was up with him. Today though we found out as we were walking Horace today we saw him and his partner and they had 6 cygnets with them, We were so pleased to see them and I’m sure they recognise us from last year as they came right up to us and didn’t seem too concerned about us or Horace, We didn’t have any bread for them today but we will take some tomorrow. We didn’t take our cameras either so I had to get some shots with my iPhone.
Last year they had three cygnets and only one survived we are not sure what happened to the other two, lets hope that these all survive.
